Inverse (2005-10)

Fearless collaborators inspire me to challenge my familiar patterns of thinking and functioning within established comfort zones as a choreographer.

It’s a risky and unsettling but joyously gratifying adventure when the destination is pure magic.

For this work, Inverse, composer Phil Strong’s kick-ass music-soundscape literally drove the dance to a ‘new’ country, which the exquisite dancers, inhabit with a masterful grace.

Inverse is an abstract exploration of the intersectionalities between neo-classical Bharatanatyam and Modern Dance, from my perspective.

The work colludes and collides with expectations, while riffing on verse and poetic dissonance, pulse against impulse and grace with bravado…

Inverse enjoyed a second adventure with edgy, daring film-maker Billie Mintz, directing the work, as a site specific Bravo!Fact short, in Toronto’s uber Bohemian Kensington market.
