The Frog Princess redux (2019)

In this inter-species and gender blending solo, Hari Krishnan plays with the references inherent in the lyrics of modern 20th composition which narrates the story of the Indian frog princess, Mandodari.

Subverting clichés and archetypes is the driving impetus of my choreography and performance.

The green glove is a visual reference to Mandodari’s feminine qualities.

Princess Mandodari was cursed to live as a frog until she meets her future husband.

In her life as a frog, she frolics with her fellow water creatures.

The ten-headed demon-king Ravana visits the forest and encounters the frog princess. Mandodari transforms into a beautiful maiden and seduces him.

They marry and leave for their kingdom of Lanka.

This Frog Princess is a reworked version for 2019 as part of a collaborative solo dance production, Undivided Colours which toured Canada in May/June 2019.
